What I love most in painting is how colours define the space they are in. They create atmospheres, moods. They carry feelings, and feelings carry meanings.
I love exploring this. How to tell a story with colour? How to convey a message? How to speak of meaningful things through colour? What does a painting say to the space it's brought into; to the person who lives with it?
This painting was born in quite a spontaneous flow - I had this one sentence in mind, just a few words that I wanted to speak through colour -
Just be loved. Just let yourself be loved.
Sometimes it's hard for me to simply let that happen; to accept that I'm loved, to remember that it's true, to stop striving, trying, fighting and just rest in it. Maybe this is why I seem to always return to this one thing in my work - to love. To remembering what love feels like, resting in it, embracing it... being in it. Letting it in.
Letting it sink into me, through me, warming all the layers on its way.
That's what I wanted to capture in this painting - that warmth. The knowledge of love.
This year I'll let these colours define my Christmas time. To set the mood of this season.
I just wanted to share this with you all - and tell you through these colours that you are loved too. More than you know. Always. Even when it doesn't feel like it.
