I seem to be going through a pink period of sorts.

I don’t really plan it; most days when I go to the studio my hand just automatically goes to the jar holding the brightest pinks… The fuchsias, the magentas, the bright power pinks.

I used to think that to use strong pinks you’d have to be a certain kind of a person. You know; feminine in a specific way. Ultrafeminine, in a way. I never knew how to think of myself that way, and I used to feel kind of shy around pinks. Like they were for someone else, not for me.

But. Then our Auri was born; our little unicorn princess with a fierce love for anything that is pink and sparkles. I haven’t taught her that, it is wholly her own, it’s what she naturally feels and what she naturally is. She is unicorns and ponies and horses, sparkles and rainbows, and she is a fierce warrior who’ll climb all the same trees her brothers climb and who runs and jumps and fights - just with a crown on her hair, so to say.

And. I am learning (from her) that you can love whatever you want to love. There are no limitations. You are just as lovely as you decide to be. No-one else has any say in that.

And so I am loving these pinks. Throwing myself in them. Floating in them. Drinking them in. They speak to me of this certain kind of an attitude; of keeping your head high, your crown straightened, of knowing your worth, of embracing your uniqueness. Strength in armour, gentleness underneath it.
