didn’t I?

...and now that you’re here with me,
windswept,

we’re both starting to realise
what is the price of it
what is the joy

of it

slowly learning how the stars are brighter
when you’ve left
the safety of known roads
behind you;

here
higher
than we thought
we would be able to climb -

the stars are nearer;
I could swear you carry them
on your cheeks,
on your
forehead

here, windswept
the stars blurring your outlines
in the darkness

August stars, August skies
February skies, midnight stars

I did promise you an adventure, didn’t I?
And I could swear
we’re almost over
this mountain

this mountain where we learned
how bright the stars can be

in between
you and
me
